Australian Rules Football also known as AFL, Aussie Rules or Footy is a fast paced, fun activity waiting for you to have a go at.
The object of the game is to kick an oval shaped ball through a set of goalposts located at either end of a large oval. You can pass the ball by kicking or punching it off your palm, but not by throwing it. Played all around the world from Fiji, South Africa and India to right here in New Zealand.
Why is AFL good for me?
AFL has skills we use in everyday life and our favourite sports. There’s kicking, catching, passing, running, tackling, bouncing and a wide range of skills that can be transferred across lots of other sports. The game is a fun way to keep fit, develop your skills and meet new friends. People of all abilities can play AFL, especially those new to the game.
How much will it cost me?
There are a bunch of opportunities to play AFL in school and out of school.
The AFL out of school season starts in October and will have a one off registration fee to help cover costs.
What do I need to play?
An AFL football some open space and a great attitude!
